This painting of the Tower of London shows the same scene as one of my previous paintings but this time after a heavy snow fall. It shows the West Gate main entrance and the west wing.
Founded by William the Conqueror in 1066 on the River Thames, the Tower is a historic UNESCO World Heritage site and iconic castle. Originally built to awe and subdue Londoners, it has served as a royal palace, infamous prison, armoury, treasury (Royal Mint) and also a zoo. It is famous for holding prisoners like Anne Boleyn, Guy Fawkes and Lady Jane Grey.
It now houses the Crown Jewels and is home to the Yeoman Warders, or ‘Beefeaters’, who guard the castle, as well as acting as entertaining guides to the 3 million annual visitors.
As with many of my paintings, I have made extensive use of golden ratios and once again, my favourite dog, Oscar, has also put in an appearance again.

** A Studio Proof canvas print is a giclée print on canvas that is hand-embellished by the artist using the same medium as the original painting (usually acrylic), signed, numbered and then coated in 3 layers of UV-resistant varnish. It is then mounted on stretchers ready for framing.
*** Giclée printing is an advanced form of ink jet printing that applies a wide range of coloured inks that are designed to be light-fast for at least 75 years.
